ESCALA RESEARCH PAPER 1 - SOUTHERN PRESS

Southern Press: Prints from Brazil, Paraguay and Chile

ESCALA has begun its series of exhibitions at firstsite with a new series of publications: ESCALA Research Papers. The Papers are investigations into the artworks and artists in the Essex Collection of Art from Latin America that ESCALA commissions from researchers and curators.

ESCALA Research Papers explore the Collection, related artworks and artists in conjunction with exhibitions, conferences and their own studies. The first ESCALA Research Paper accompanies Southern Press: Prints from Brazil, Paraguay and Chile, the exhibition of work from the Collection at firstsite’s new building in Colchester. It has been written by ESCALA guest curator and University of Essex PhD student, Ian Dudley, who is also Project Officer for the Arts and Humanities Research Council research project Meeting Margins.

We will commission ESCALA Research Papers regularly, publishing them in hard copy as well as making them available on our website as downloadable PDFs. Collectable hard copies with covers in the ESCALA colours of red, yellow and purple are available to purchase directly from the Collection.

ESCALA has a long tradition of publishing research relating to art from Latin America. More information about our publications can be found here.
