    Over 17,000 visitors to Southern Press

    Over 17,000 people have visited ESCALA's inaugural exhibition Southern Press: Prints from Brazil, Paraguay and Chile since firstsite opened 25 September 2011. The selection, from the ESCALA Collection, focuses on the works of thirteen printmakers from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

    Southern Press exhibition dates extended

    Santander Universities sponsors ESCALA

    As well as supporting the development of ESCALA’s new website, Santander Universities has offered to sponsor the Collection with another £15,000 over three years from 2011 to 2013. This generous donation will support the Collection’s continued investment in a sustainable future as it develops plans to create a permanent home in the Hexagon building at the Colchester Campus. ESCALA hopes to develop the Hexagon for the University’s 50th anniversary in 2014.

    firstsite opens to the public

    On Sunday 25 September 2011, firstsite's new building opened to the public.  Designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, the gallery features a dedicated exhibition space for ESCALA. The University's space in firstsite will enable us to make works from the Collection far more accessible to the public.
